4th night of Advent—Abram Out of Obscurity.
Symbol: Tent & camel
Hymns: Jesus Calls Us O'er The Tumult; Living For Jesus
We're getting in the groove of our Advent observance habit. The kids get excited to see whose initial will be drawn for the honor of lighting the candle (and snuffing it out at the end) and for hanging the Jesse Tree ornament on the archway bough.
This day we learn about Abram, who we have just studied about in BSF. Called by a God he did not know, to leave the friendly familiar for a place he had never seen, in a timeframe that was never spelled out, Abram went. Told by this new God that (at age 75, no less) he would be made into a great nation, that he would be blessed and a blessing, that his name would be great, Abram believed.
He believed in the promise of a hoped for son who would fill the world with blessing upon blessing, son upon son.
Generations later, two of his distant progeny also believe as they wend their way in faith from the friendly familiar to a place they have not known, hoping in the promised blessing son, who will fill the world with blessing upon blessing, son upon son.

Josh gets to blow out the candles each time - all the competition is gone. but love the idea of drawing initials.
